MP3 Software
In order to download MP3 files from the Internet, or to transfer your CDs to MP3 format, you will need some kind of MP3 Software. The good news is that most personal computers come loaded with at least one option in this area. Check your program files for Winamp, MusicMatch or Windows Media.
If you insert a CD in your PC's CD drive, one of these programs will usually pop up automatically if it's on your hard drive. These programs walk you through the process of downloading and transferring files, and then burning them onto an MP3 CD. If your computer doesn't already have such a program, they are available for $20-$40.
